At MEND Hand Therapy we can assist with a range of services
What we do at mend hand therapy clinics
Hands are intricate and perfectly balanced. What might appear to be a small injury can have huge impacts on hand synergy and can lead to more complex problems if not addressed.
MEND Hand Therapists provide accurate assessment and diagnosis through a variety of specialised assessment techniques. Your assessment may include hands on assessment, joint measurements, strength assessments, sensory assessments and neural assessments all specific to the hand and upper limb. We will also review all relevant imaging and correlate this with our assessment.
- A variety of thermoplastic splinting materials can be used to make custom splints which are unique to your hand and specifically target your problem area.
- Custom splints immobilise the correct joints in the correct position to reduce risk of complications.
- Dynamic splints can be designed to assist movement when muscle weakness is present ( eg following a nerve injury) or to regain movement in stiff joints.
- Splints can be fabricated to maintain good hand posture and prevent contracture ( eg following stroke).
MEND Hand Therapists love splinting and will ensure that you are provided with the right splint for the job - every time!
As well as management of your hand injury, we also value our role in facilitating your return to work and navigating your way within the workers compensation/CTP system.
As part of your treatment, we will also:
- Liase with case managers and rehab providers
- Liase with treating GP and specialist regarding work capacity and return to work planning
- Provide recommendations for workplace adjustments/altered duties according to your capacity
- Be an advocate for you to help enable your quickest recovery
Waterproof casting of wrist and arm fractures allows you to get on with daily life with less inconvenience.
We can fit you with a waterproof cast which will allow you to shower and swim while your injury is safely immobilised.
We can attend to your wound care needs following surgery as part of our comprehensive post operative care. We use dressings which optimise healing, reduce swelling and allow early movement. We can also remove sutures following surgery.
Following wound healing we will use techniques to treat scar tissue to:
- Minimise adhesions and improve movement
- Reduce sensitivity of scar
- Reduce visibility of scar
